Car Aircon Not Blowing Cold: Regas or Repair?
Published 4 October 2026
Warm air from the vents does not always mean the air-conditioning system simply needs more refrigerant. Refrigerant loss, leaks, compressor problems, fan faults or electrical issues can all reduce cooling.
Symptoms can have more than one cause. RMS Bosch focuses on testing and inspection before significant repair work is recommended.
When a regas may help
If refrigerant quantity is low and the system is otherwise operating correctly, recharging to the correct specification may restore cooling.
When a repair may be needed
If refrigerant has escaped because of a leak or another component is not operating correctly, a regas alone may only provide temporary improvement.
- Repeated loss of cooling
- Visible or detected refrigerant leak
- Compressor not engaging
- Cooling fan fault
- Electrical control problem
Why testing comes first
Checking pressures, temperature, leak condition and electrical operation helps separate a simple recharge from an underlying repair.
KZN driving conditions
KwaZulu-Natal heat and humidity make dependable air-conditioning important for comfort and demisting, so recurring cooling problems should be investigated rather than repeatedly topped up.
