Car Pulling to One Side: Alignment or Suspension?
Published 4 October 2026
A vehicle that pulls to one side is not always an alignment-only problem. Tyre condition, pressure, suspension wear, steering components and brake drag can all influence how the vehicle tracks.
Symptoms can have more than one cause. RMS Bosch focuses on testing and inspection before significant repair work is recommended.
Start with the tyres
Uneven tyre pressure, tyre damage or abnormal wear can make a vehicle pull even when alignment settings are close to specification.
Alignment can be part of the cause
Incorrect wheel geometry can affect straight-line tracking and tyre wear, but alignment should not be used to hide worn steering or suspension parts.
Suspension and steering checks
Worn bushes, ball joints, tie-rod ends, shocks or other components can alter wheel position and handling.
- Knocking over bumps
- Uneven tyre wear
- Steering play
- Vehicle feels unstable
Brake drag can also cause pulling
If the pull becomes stronger during braking, the braking system should also be inspected.
