Brake Repairs & Replacement

Brake noise, vibration, changes in pedal feel and longer stopping distances should be assessed before wear progresses. RMS Bosch inspects the braking system to identify what is actually worn or causing the symptom, then explains whether the vehicle needs adjustment, brake pad replacement, disc work, fluid-related attention or another approved brake repair.

What Brake Inspections Find

Trace Brake Symptoms

A brake inspection can include pad thickness, disc condition, visible hydraulic components, fluid condition and the way the vehicle behaves under braking. Noise alone does not tell you which repair is required.

Pads and discs wear at different rates depending on the vehicle and driving conditions. Discs do not automatically need replacement every time pads are replaced; their condition and service limits should guide the decision.

If the brake pedal changes suddenly, the vehicle takes significantly longer to stop, pulls strongly under braking or there is severe grinding, avoid unnecessary driving and have the braking system assessed promptly.

Brake Repair Warning Signs

Squealing, scraping or grinding when braking

Vibration through the brake pedal or steering wheel

A soft, low or unusual brake pedal

The vehicle takes longer to stop or pulls to one side under braking

Why Brake Inspections Matter

More predictable braking performance

Earlier detection of brake pad and disc wear

Clearer brake repair and replacement priorities

Reduced risk of worn components affecting the wider braking system

Restore safe, predictable braking.

What we check.

✓ Brake pad thickness and disc condition
✓ Brake fluid and visible hydraulic components
✓ Noise, vibration and braking behaviour
✓ Related wear that may affect stopping performance

Our Brake Repair Process

Assess the braking symptom

Confirm the noise, pedal feel, vibration, pulling or stopping concern and when it occurs so the inspection starts with the customer’s actual symptom.

Inspect the braking system

Check brake pad thickness, disc condition, brake fluid and visible hydraulic or mechanical areas that may explain the braking concern.

Explain the repair scope

Explain what is worn or abnormal and whether brake pad replacement, disc work, fluid-related attention or another repair is required.

Repair and verify braking

Complete the approved brake repair, recheck the system and confirm braking operation before the vehicle is handed back.

Brake Repair FAQs

How do I know when my brake pads need replacing?

Common signs include squealing, grinding, reduced braking confidence or an inspection showing that the friction material is worn. Brake pad condition should be checked before metal-to-metal contact damages the discs.

Should squeaking brakes be inspected?

Yes. Persistent brake noise can indicate wear, glazing, contamination or another braking-system concern and should be inspected rather than ignored.

Do brake discs always need replacing with brake pads?

No. Disc condition should be measured and inspected. Replacement depends on wear, damage, thickness and the applicable service limits.

Where can I book brake repairs or brake replacement in KZN?

Brake inspections, repairs and replacement can be booked through the RMS Bosch workshop network in Durban, Umhlanga, Cornubia, Dolphin Coast and Zululand.
